The Mason County Royals play their home opener tonight against the Bourbon County Colonels in the Meadowview Regional Medical Center Kickoff Classic. Mason County (1-1) is coming off an open week. Bourbon County is 0-2. The Colonels have lost to Estill County (28-14) and Casey County (22-0). Bourbon County has been hit hard by injuries. Colonels Coach Johnny Poynter says they have spent more time at the hospital and doctor than at practice. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
Notes:
- Mason County senior linebacker Carson Gray has been cleared to play tonight after missing the first two games due to an illness;
- Bourbon County leads the series 5-2. Mason County has won three straight against the Colonels. The Royals won 43-14 last year at Bourbon County;
- The tailgate party begins at 5 p.m. The menu includes pulled pork, cole slaw, chips, corn, drink and dessert. The cost is $5.
