University of Kentucky freshman wide receiver La'Rod King has connections to Maysville. His mother is the former Valerie Wilburn, a graduate of Maysville High School. King's grandmother, Velma Wilburn, and his aunt, Allison Wilburn Black, both live in Maysville. King played quarterback, wide receiver, tight end and special teams for North Hardin High School. He was the quarterback his senior season. He also played basketball and competed in track and field in high school. King, a true freshman, has nine receptions for 121 yards for Kentucky this season. King's dad, Rodriquez King, played college football.
