The Mason County 8th grade girls basketball team won the Rowan County Middle School tournament this past weekend. They ran their record to 14-4 on the season with three wins.
The Lady Royals defeated Bath County 54-22 in the opening round. McKenzie Butler led the way with 17 points and Elle Simms added 11 points. Mason County beat Rowan County 37-12 in the semifinals. Butler scored 16 points and Simms tossed in 10 points. In the championship game, Butler scored 22 points and Simms added 16 as the Lady Royals defeated Bracken County 44-26. Mason County plays McNabb Tuesday night in Mt. Sterling. Here are the box scores from the tournament:
