Mason County tailback Jeremy Thompson (left) and free safety Ryan Foley (right) both signed today to play football at Campbellsville University. Thompson, who was a finalist for Mr. Football, had a record setting senior season. He set school records for rushing yards in a season (1,603), rushing touchdowns in a season (31) and points in a season (196). Thompson is second on the Royals' all-time list in career total touchdowns, second in total touchdowns in a season, second in career points, second in career rushing touchdowns and third in career rushing yards.Mason County Coach David Buchanan says Thompson has always had ability "but to have done what he did this past season, his attitude, he did a complete 180. And I'm just so proud of him and the way that he worked."
Foley had three interceptions in each of the past two seasons. Buchanan says in a lot of situations, Foley could have been the premier offensive guy on his team because he is fast.
"He could have been the number one wide receiver, he could have been the number one tailback," Buchanan said. "For Mason County football to be successful, he needed to be our free safety. And he did a tremendous job of that."
Two other Mason County seniors- Terrance Breckenridge and Adam Cooper- signed last month to play football at Campbellsville University.
