Day one of the National City/KHSAA Boys' Sweet 16 is in the books. Lexington Catholic led by as many as 23 points and beat University Heights Academy 69-54 in the tournament opener.
Taylor Stewart scored 25 points and Vee Sanford added 22 points for Lexington Catholic.
McDonald's All-American Scotty Hopson scored 21 points for UHA.
Brock Moorman scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Owensboro Red Devils to a 63-48 victory over the Louisville Central Yellowjackets.
Brandon Slone scored 35 points to lead the Paintsville Tigers past the Jeffersontown Chargers 93-87. The Tigers shot 64.7% from the field.
Covington Holmes defeated Bardstown 64-44 in the final game of the night.
Four more first round games will be played Thursday including Mason County vs. Elliott County at 8 p.m.
