The Mason County Royals travel to Grayson Friday night to play the East Carter Raiders in a district football game. Here are some notes:
- Both teams are 2-1 overall. Mason County is 1-0 in the district. This week's game is the district opener for East Carter. The Raiders defeated Boyd County (7-0) and Raceland (35-25) and lost to Fairview (12-0);
- Aaron Baldwin is in his first year as the head coach of the Raiders. He is a 1999 graduate of East Carter. Baldwin was a junior quarterback when the Raiders beat the Royals 34-28 in overtime in 1997. Mason County won 45-22 in Baldwin's senior season. Baldwin says it "humbles" him that he's coaching against a coach (Mason County's David Buchanan) he played against;
- East Carter is third in scoring defense (12.3 points per game) in Class 3A;
- Mason County shows up in several statistical categories, but they are not accurate because the KHSAA lists the Royals with two games instead of three;
- Mason County leads the series 10-8 and has won the last five meetings.
