Mason County 56, Lewis County 7

The Mason County Royals opened district play with a 56-7 win over the Lewis County Lions tonight in the Paul Westerfield Bowl at Lewis County. The Royals led 42-7 at halftime and scored on a kickoff return by Jordan Gilbert and an interception return by Cameron Pollitt in the first four minutes of the third quarter. That meant the game was played with a running clock the rest of the way. Mason County quarterback Richie Cox who threw for 124 yards and two touchdowns was named the Most Valuable Player. Mason County is 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the district. The Royals play East Carter Friday night. Here is the scoring summary:
