Cross Country News

The Mason County girls remain 7th in the KytrackXC.com/ktcca State Rankings. The Mason County boys dropped out of the top 10. The Mason County Cross Country Invitational is Saturday. Here is a press release from coach Mark Kachler:

On Saturday September 15, 2007 the Mason County Runnin’ Royals will host the 5th annual Mason County Cross Country Invitational. This years race will see 28 schools and over 700 runners competing in races ranging from 6th grade and under to high school varsity competitions. Once again the Mason County Invitational is attracting top caliber competition. The Connor Cougars from Northern Kentucky boast the #8 ranked girls team and the #10 ranked boys team in the AAA division of Kentucky. The Lady Cougars are lead by Jami Kloenne ranked as the #11 individual female in the AAA division. Covington Scott makes their first appearance at the Mason County Invitational. Scott’s Blake Askins will be the favorite in the boys varsity race. Askins is currently ranked #5 in this weeks AAA coaches association poll. The Ladies from Covington Scott were ranked #10 in last weeks AAA coaches association pole and are lead by Jerrica Maddox, a perinieal All State runner who should challenge Jami Kloenne for the girls varsity title. The Mason County Lady Royals, currently ranked #7 in AA will split their squad running the middle school harriers in their own division which should make them the odds on favorite to capture the middle school title.
“ We always try to let the younger runners run against their own age group as much as possible in the early part of the season to help them with their confidence and conditioning. It can hurt our team performance now but should pay dividends in the long run. I have great confidence in our high school girls lead by juniors Rachel White and Blaine Menke to come thru with a solid performance,” said coach Kachler.
The Mason County boys team will not only be challenged by Connor and Covington Scott, Campbell County will return to defend their 2006 title. The Ripley Blue Jays also bring a very strong boys squad to the meet and should be a challenger for the title.

The days events begin with an open 5K race at 8:30 AM. Any interested local runners can register the morning of the race. Race winners (male and female) will receive a trophy and the top 15 in each gender will receive medals. The entire meet is open to the public. Admission will be charged. Everyone is encouraged to attend and support your local team.
