Here's a cure for cabin fever- head to the Mason County Fieldhouse tonight for the
Spectrum Grafx River City Classic. The Bracken County Polar Bears play the Russell County Lakers at 6:30 p.m. The Mason County Royals play the Madison Central Indians in the second game. A ceremony to recognize the 1981-82 Mason County boys basketball team will be held between games. That team had an undefeated regular season and won its first 31 games before losing to Virgie in the quarterfinals of the state tournament.
All four teams in tonight's classic are coached by former Mason County players-
Jay Fite at Bracken County, Willie Feldhaus (a member of the 1981-82 Royals' team) at Russell County, Allen Feldhaus Jr. at Russell County, and Chris O'Hearn at Mason County. The Mason County vs. Madison Central game should be a good one.
The Royals are 18-2 and ranked as high as second in the state. Madison Central (17-5), ranked 14th, is the defending champion of the 11th Region. The game will feature two of the top juniors in the state-Darius Miller of Mason County and Aaron Morris of Madison Central. You can count on the Indians playing some tough defense. It should be a fun night. I hope you can be there.
