Correction: Mason County's all-time record is 164-164

Thanks to a heads-up by Rick Swartz and some additional research, we discovered we had the Mason County football program's all-time record wrong. We announced and blogged Friday night that with the win over Montgomery County the record was above .500 for the first time in the program's history. In fact, the all-time record is 164-164. That's the first time the record has been at .500 since it was 18-18 in 1982.

(Edited to include the 18-18 record in 1982)

KHSAA approves change in pitching distance for fast pitch softball

Here is the press release from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association:

Beginning with the 2010 season the distance from the pitching rubber to home plate in fast pitch softball will move from 40 to 43 feet. The measure was approved by the KHSAA Board of Control in a unanimous vote during a special meeting on Monday in Lexington.
The rule requiring the change was approved by the National Federation of High Schools and given to member states for implementation by the 2011 season. Several states, including Florida, Oregon, Tennessee and Missouri, have also implemented the change for the upcoming season.
"Once the Federation adopted the changes all schools were going to have to do it by 2011 and our Board decided it would be best if everyone went ahead and did it now," said KHSAA Assistant Commissioner in charge of Softball Darren Bilberry. "This way it will give our coaches and student-athletes a chance to get adjusted to the new rule by the time everyone must adopt it."
The first contest date for the 2010 fast pitch season is Monday, March 22, 2010. The KHSAA Fast Pitch Softball State Tournament will be held June 11-12, 2010, at Jack C. Fisher Park in Owensboro.
