Lady Royals 3rd, Royals 4th at 2A state indoor track and field championships

The Mason County Lady Royals finished third and the Royals took fourth place at the KHSAA Class 2A State Indoor Track and Field Championships on Tuesday at the Norton Sports and Learning Center in Louisville.

The Lady Royals, without Lexi Young who was injured in a basketball game on Monday night, finished with 49 points. Lexington Catholic won the girls' state championship with 101 points. Calloway County was the runner-up with 89.5 points.

The Royals racked up 38.50 points. Covington Catholic won the boys' state title with 90 points. Taylor County and Bourbon County tied for second place with 47 points.

Trazon Lang won the state championship in the boys' high jump (6-02.00).

Ava Thompson is a co-state champion in the girls' pole vault (12-00.00) and finished third in the girls' high jump (5-00.00).

Other top 10 finishes by Mason County athletes include:

  • Kenzie Gulley, 10th in the girls' 55 meter dash (7.74)
  • Sarah Payne, 3rd in the girls' 400 meter dash (59.85) and 3rd in the girls' pole vault (10.06.00)
  • Kolby Galloway, 7th in the girls' triple jump (31-10.75) 9th in the girls' 800 meter run (2:36.67)
  • Madison Howard, 7th in the girls' long jump (15-07.75)
  • Reese Hardeman, 5th in the girls' shot put (30-10.00)
  • The girls' 4x200 meter relay team of Kenzie Gulley, Cece Hiatt, Madison Howard and Sarah Payne, 4th (1:52.02)
  • The girls' 4x400 meter team of Ava Thompson, Ava Caskey, Kolby Galloway and Sarah Payne, 3rd (4:21.82)
  • The girls' 4x800 meter relay team of Kolby Galloway, Calleigh Passmore, Brooklyn Young and Ava Winter, 6th (11:06.43)
  • Nazir Metts, 8th in the boys' high jump (5-08.00)
  • Keenan Gulley, 6th in the boys' pole vault (11-06.00)
  • CJ Arthur, 6th in the boys' 200 meter dash (23.65)
  • Elijah Reed, 10th in the boys' pole vault (11-00.00)
  • Ashayne Jones, 4th in the boys' pole vault (44-06.50)
  • Deshawn Overly, 5th in the boys' 1600 meter run (4:27.95) and 8th in the boys' 3200 meter run (9:47.69)
  • Ed Brannon, 8th in the boys' 1600 meter run (4:43.21) and 8th in the boys' 3200 meter run (10:23.61)
  • The boys' 4x200 meter relay team of CJ Arthur, Jaxen Crabtree, Juan Carlos and Micah Payne, 3rd (1:34.82)
  • The boys' 4x400 meter relay team of Jaxen Crabtree, Micah Payne, Keenan Galloway and Elijah Reed, 7th (3:41.50)
  • The boys' 4x800 meter relay team of Ed Brannon, Deshawn Overly, Marquise Kirk and Elijah Reed, 6th (8:31.78)
