The Mason County Lady Royals put together a furious fourth quarter rally, but came up short in a 56-52 loss to the Woodford County Lady Yellow Jackets on Wednesday night at the Lady Royals Gym.
Mason County (16-7) jumped out to an 8-1 lead, but Woodford County (11-6) was ahead 17-15 at the end of the first quarter and 34-24 at halftime.
The Lady Yellow Jackets extended the lead to 37-24 in the opening minute of the third quarter and were up 52-42 with 4:23 left in the fourth quarter before the Lady Royals closed the gap to 53-52 with 1:16 to go. Mason County had a chance to take the lead, but committed a turnover. Down 55-52, the Lady Royals missed a corner 3. Woodford County sealed the win by making one of two free throws.
Amirah Reed led Mason County in scoring with 20 points. Olivia Hughes added 14 points.
The Lady Royals will play their final four games of the regular season on the road beginning on Friday night at Nicholas County.
