A furious rally by the Mason County Royals came up short in a 74-72 loss to the Augusta Panthers on Wednesday night at The Fieldhouse.
Augusta led 66-53 with 2:46 to play and 67-55 with 1:57 remaining. Mason County rallied and had a chance to win the game, but missed a 3-pointer in the closing seconds.
The Royals led 46-39 at the end of the third quarter and 48-41 early in the fourth quarter before the Panthers took control of the game with a 14-0 run.
Augusta scored 35 points in the fourth quarter after scoring just three points in the third quarter and 39 through three quarters.
Keeton Bach scored a game-high 24 points for Augusta. Noland Young tossed in 19 and Will Kelsch contributed 14.
Braeden Myrick scored 17 of his team-high 21 points for Mason County in the fourth quarter. Garryon McClain scored 15 points and Cole Horch added 13 points.
Augusta (12-6) will host St. Patrick on Friday night.
Mason County (9-9) will travel to Covington on Friday night to play Holy Cross.
