Coach Joe Wynn leaving Mason County for Simon Kenton

Mason County head football coach Joe Wynn has resigned to become the head coach at Simon Kenton High School in Independence.

In four seasons as the Royals’ coach, Wynn compiled a record of 36-14 (.720) making him the second winningest coach in the history of the program.

Mason County won its first 13 games of the 2022 season and district and region championships before losing to Bardstown in the state semifinals. The 13 wins are a school record.

Wynn, the 2024 Class 4A District 5 Coach of the Year, will be the 13th head coach at Simon Kenton.

Wynn released a statement on his X account:

In a post on X, Mason County Athletics wrote, “We appreciate Coach Wynn’s hard work and dedication to Mason County High and to the Mason County football program. We wish him nothing but the best in his new position.”

Mason County also announced on X that assistant coach Bradley Boone will be in charge of the football program until a new coach is hired.
