Highands will move into Mason County's football district in 2025

Twenty-three time state champion Highlands will move into Mason County's district and Grant County will move out under the football alignment for the 2025 and 2026 seasons by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Control on Wednesday.

Mason County's opponents in District 5 of Class 4A will be Covington Catholic, Highlands, Holmes and Harrison County.

Grant County was in District 5 under the draft alignment released in February. The KHSAA allowed six weeks of feedback from member schools. Grant County asked to be moved to District 4, and the Board of Control granted that request on Wednesday.

Grant County was the only school in District 5 to respond to the KHSAA after the draft alignment was released, according to a report on the KHSAA website.

Highlands is dropping down from Class 5A.

Mason County's district opponents last season and in the 2024 season include Covington Catholic, Grant County, Harrison County and Holmes.

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its final regularly scheduled meeting of the 2023-24 academic year on Wednesday in Lexington, adopting a football alignment effective for the 2025 and 2026 playing seasons. A draft was approved at last February’s regularly scheduled meeting with an allowance for six weeks of feedback from the membership that was shared and publicly available.
