Royals survive and advance in 10th Region Tournament

The Mason County Royals pulled out a victory from the jaws of defeat by edging the Bourbon County Colonels 67-65 on Wednesday night in the opening game of the 10th Region Tournament at The Fieldhouse.

Bourbon County led 49-39 with 4:56 left in the third quarter and 56-51 with 5:45 remaining in the game.

Carter McClanahan made a 3-pointer to tie the score at 60-all with 1:33 to play. 

An and-1 by Kaden Hilander put the Colonels up 63-60 at the 1:05 mark. 

Braylon Hamilton hit two free throws to cut the deficit to one then he made a layup off a steal to put the Royals up 64-63 with 38 seconds left.

The Colonels regained the lead on a fast break layup by Noah Earlywine with 31 seconds to play.

Hamilton made another layup and was fouled. He missed the free throw but the ball went out of bounds off Bourbon County.

Teegin Routt hit 1-of-2 free throws to give the Royals a 67-65 lead.

The Colonels missed a 3-point attempt and a follow shot in the closing seconds.

Hamilton led Mason County (21-11) in scoring with 19 points. He also had five rebounds and four assists. Landon Scilley had 17 points and seven rebounds, McClanahan tossed in 16 points and Jake Feldhaus had 10 points and six rebounds before fouling out with 6:27 left in the game.

Hilander finished with 17 points for the Colonels (13-16). Bradley Robinson followed with 14 points and Jake Scott added 10.

Mason County will play Harrison County in the semifinals on Monday night. Kaydon Custard scored 37 points and the Thorobreds beat the Scott Eagles 72-69 in overtime.

Mason Smiley made a buzzer-beating corner 3 at the end of regulation.

Elijah Harris scored 20 points for Harrison County (16-14).

Dylan Giffen led Scott (14-18) with 20 points, Conner Griffin followed with 14 and Carter Eten added 11.
