Cayden Reed and Jake Feldhaus combined for 52 points, but it wasn't enough as the Mason County Royals lost to the Rowan County Vikings 86-77 in the season opener Tuesday night in Morehead.
Mason County led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter, but Rowan County ended the quarter on a 12-4 run.
There were eight ties and 19 lead changes through the first three quarters.
Rowan County took the lead for good with a 3-pointer to end the third quarter, and opened the fourth quarter on an 18-4 run to take its biggest lead at 75-60.
Colby Wilburn made four 3-pointers and scored 33 points for the Vikings and Brayden Mirus added 24 points.
Reed scored 30 points for the Royals on 10-of-14 from the field and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Feldhaus had a career-high 22 points and nine rebounds. He shot 9-of-10 from the field (8-of-8 on 2-pointers) and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Braylon Hamilton added 11 points.
Mason County will head back to the 16th Region on Thursday night to play the Greenup County Musketeers.
