The Mason County Royals had their 28-point first quarter lead cut to three with less than two minutes left in the game but were able to hang on for a 74-68 road victory over the Greenup County Musketeers on Thursday night.
Blake Reed led four Royals in double figure scoring with 22 points. Landon Scilley scored a career-high 18 points, Braylon Hamilton followed with 13 points and Jake Feldhaus added 10 points.
Mason County (1-1) led 17-1 and 31-3 in the first quarter and 48-28 at halftime.
Greenup County (0-2) rallied to within three points late in the third quarter.
The Royals pushed the lead back to nine at 68-59 with 4:21 remaining in the game, but the Musketeers went on an 8-2 run to make it 70-67 with 1:55 to go.
Mason County sealed the victory by hitting 4-of-6 free throws in the final minute.
The Royals will travel to Independence on Tuesday night to play the Simon Kenton Pioneers.
