Mason County will host Powell County in the first round of the football payoffs

It's official: the Mason County Royals will host the Powell County Pirates next Friday night in the first round of the KHSAA Class AA football playoffs.

Mason County clinched the No.2 seed in District 6 with a 39-8 victory over Powell County on October 22. That win left the Royals with a 3-1 record in district games. Fleming County locked up the No. 1 seed with a 4-0 record in district play.

Powell County, Lewis County and Pendleton County ended in a three-way tie with 1-3 records in the district.

The KHSAA used the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) to break the three-way tie. Here's how the RPI ended up for those three teams after last night's games:

Powell County .31563
Lewis County .30031
Pendleton County .29897

Powell County gets the No. 3 seed and will make it's second trip to Mason County in as many weeks. Lewis County ends up as the No. 4 seed and will play Fleming County in Flemingsburg. Pendleton County is the odd team out of the playoffs.

The winners of the Mason County/Powell County and Fleming County/Lewis County games will meet in the second round of the playoffs.
