The Campbell County Camels held off the upset-minded Bracken County Polar Bears 71-64 in double overtime in the opening game of the 10th Region Tournament today at The Fieldhouse.
Campbell County beat Bracken County by 33 points in the regular season and was a heavy favorite today, but the Polar Bears were able to dictate slow tempo and got 39 points from freshman guard Blake Reed to give the Camels all they wanted.
Reed hit a three-pointer to send the game into overtime, and Bracken County had a chance to win in the extra period but missed a shot at the buzzer.
The Camels outscored the Polar Bears 10-3 in the second overtime.
Aydan Hamilton made 16-of-17 free throws and led Campbell County in scoring with 22 points. Garrett Beiting followed with 21 points and Dane Hegyi added 11 points.
