News and notes to close out 2019
Here are a few news and notes about local sports to close out 2019:
- Fred Hester was inducted into the Brown County Athletic Hall of Fame last week during the Brown County Holiday Tournament. Hester, a 1967 graduate of Mason County High School, began his teaching and coaching career at Ripley in 1972.. During an interview in 2016, Hester said he had a lot great memories from his years at Ripley. Hester served as an assistant coach for Allen Feldhaus at Mason County, was promoted to head coach of the Royals when Feldhaus retired and also served as athletic director at Mason County. Three other former head coaches- Jerry Davis of Ripley, Bernie Cropper of Georgetown and Jim Cook of Leesburg-Fairfield- were also inducted into the Brown County Athletic Hall of Fame last week.
- The Kentucky 2A Championship Section 5 Tournament will be played next week. Mason County plays Rowan County in the quarterfinal round of both the girls' and boys' tournaments Monday night at Rowan County. The rest of the tournament will be played at Bourbon County. The winners of the Mason County vs. Rowan County games will play Pendleton County in the upper bracket semifinal. Harrison County and Bourbon County will meet in the lower bracket semifinal. The girls' semifinals are set for January 8th and the boys' semifinals are scheduled for January 9th. The championship games for both the girls' and boys' tournaments will be played on January 11th.
- September 12th is the date for Limestone Cycling Tour. Registration begins tomorrow at limestonecyclingtour.com
