News and notes

Today is the final day of the KHSAA Dead Period. Football teams can begin practicing in helmets tomorrow. Full gear practices are allowed on August 1. The first day of practice for other fall sports is July 15. Athletes are reminded they must have a current sports physical on file in order to tryout or practice. The fall sports seasons will be here before you know it. With that in mind, here are a few news and notes:


  • Mason County varsity and freshmen football practice begins Wednesday at 7 p.m at the football field.
  • Mason County volleyball tryouts are set for July 15 and 16 from 9 to 11 a.m. at The Fieldhouse.
  • Mason County girls soccer tryouts will be held July 15-17 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Mason County Intermediate School. Players need to bring gym shoes, cleats, shin guards and water.
  • The Bryan Conway Junior Memorial Golf Tournament, sponsored by Schumacher Insurance Agency, will be played Wednesday, July 17 at Kenton Station Golf Course. The tournament is open to boys and girls ages 9 to 16. The entry fee is $5. Call Kenton Station Golf Course at 759-7154 to sign up.
  • July 20 and 21 are the dates for the Laurel Oaks Classic, a 36-hole medal play tournament at Laurel Oaks Golf Course. A shootout will be held July 19 at 6 p.m. For tee times and more information, call Laurel Oaks Golf Course at 759-5011.
