Mason County's girls' 4x400 relay team breaks school record it set last week

The Mason County girls' 4x400 meter relay team of Abigail Dawson, Olivia O'Hearn, Hadley Faris and Rachel Payne broke the school record it had set last week in the region meet.

The new record time of 4:16.66 was set Saturday with a 12th place finish at the KHSAA Class 2A state track meet at the University of Kentucky and is nearly two seconds faster than the record set last week (4:18.52).

Class 2A schools had to make two trips to Lexington to complete the meet. Heavy rain postponed the meet Friday night not long after it had started. Mason County's seniors graduated Saturday morning and the track and field team members headed back to Lexington later in the day to finish the meet.

Other highlights for Mason County include:

  • Kaylee Campbell and Dalton Kindt- the state championship in the mixed shot put unified (57-11.25)
  • Kindt took fourth place in the shot put (48-04.25) and eighth place in the discus (127-05)
  • Campbell and Alyssa Cracraft finished in eighth place in the mixed long jump unified (10-07.25)
  • Marissa Scilley finished fourth in the triple jump (34-00.25)
  • In the long jump, Paige Decker finished in 12th place (15-06.75) and Scilley took 16th place (15-05.00)
  • In the pole vault, Dawson was fourth (9-06.00) and O'Hearn was sixth (8-06.06)
  • Te'A King was eighth in the 100 meter dash (12.94)
  • The girls' 4x100 meter relay team of Scilley, Eboni Chambers, Kendra Shoemaker and King took 13th place (52.73)
  • Payne was 14th in the 300 meter hurdles (50.26)
  • Isaiah Riggs was 16th in the 3200 meter run ((10:50.92)
  • Carson Adams was 17th in the 800 meter run (2:05.57)
  • In the high jump, Allen Powell tied for 13th place (5-06.00) and Sara Brewer tied for 21st place (4-06.00)
The Mason County girls finished in 15th place and the Mason County boys finished in 22nd place in the team standings,
