Paris and Scott win nail biters in Boys 10th Region semifinals

The Paris Greyhounds and the Scott Eagles both won nail biters tonight in the Boys 10th Region Tournament at The Fieldhouse and will meet in the semifinals Monday night.

Eric Johnson hit a floater in the lane with nine seconds to play to give the Paris Greyhounds a 51-50 victory over the Pendleton County Wildcats.

Trey Meister sank a shot from the left elbow with three seconds remaining to lift the Scott Eagles to a 55-53 win over the Mason County Royals.

Mason County jumped out to a 9-0 lead and was up 16-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Scott rallied and took its first lead in the third quarter and was up 49-45 with 2:47 to play.

The score was tied at 49-49 and 51-51.

The Eagles held the ball for more than a minute before Nelson Perrin scored to give Scott a 53-51 lead with 36 seconds remaining.

Leevi Dunaway sank two free throws to tie the game with 30 seconds left.

Scott took a timeout with 20 seconds to play.

The Eagles got the ball to Meister and he hit the turn around shot.

Mason County called timeout with 2.6 seconds left.

Dunaway's shot from behind the timeline at the buzzer hit the backboard and fell off the front of the rim.

"This is a tough one," Mason County coach Buddy Biggs said. "I'll take full responsibility for it. Our kids competed, played their hearts out. They listened to the game plan; they executed. We outshot 'em 45 percent to 37 percent, outrebounded 'em 33-28, shot more free throws than they did, shot better from the three than they did, and we still lost. I thought the one negative thing was the turnovers- we had 21 of them, they didn't really press us that much, just a couple of possessions, so that was out undoing. But, you know, to be shorthanded tonight (and) not have our point guard and our second leading scorer, leading rebounder, second leading assist guy to come out and compete like to did, I'm just so,so proud of these kids, very proud to be their coach."

The Royals were without junior point Jaylen Lofton who cut his hand while opening a window in the locker room at intermission of the district championship game.

There were seven ties and five lead changes in the second half.

Dunaway scored a game-high 23 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Xylon Frey tossed in 13 points.

Dalton Perkins had 12 rebounds and blocked six shots to go along with his six points.

There were eight ties and 18 lead changes in the Paris vs. Pendleton County game. Seven of the lead changes were in the third quarter. The largest lead was six points.

After Johnson's go ahead basket, Pendleton County junior Dontaie Allen missed a long, contested jumper just before the buzzer sounded.

Allen scored a game-high 25 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
