Royals use big 2nd half to beat Augusta 54-36 in district opener

Augusta controlled the tempo in the first half and it was a four-point game at intermission, but Mason County sped up the game in the second half and the Royals beat the Panthers 54-36 tonight in the upper bracket semifinal game of the 39th District Tournament at the Fieldhouse.

There were three ties and four lead changes in the first half and Mason County had a 20-16 lead at the half.

The Royals outscored the Panthers 18-7 in the third quarter and led by as many 23 points in the fourth quarter.

Mason County shot 56 percent from the field in the second half.

Jaylen Lofton scored 16 of his game-high 18 points in the second half.

Ty Fox had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Mason County advances to the championship game Thursday night and will play the winner of Tuesday's game between St. Patrick and Bracken County.
