Mason County edges Madison Central 66-65 in Murph Classic

Basketball is a game of runs, but you don't often see the big swings that happened in the Mason County Royals' 66-65 victory over the Madison Central Indians tonight in the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic at the Fieldhouse.

Mason County had a 24-0 run in the first quarter and led 28-6 at the end of the quarter.

Madison Central opened the second quarter on a 22-0 run and outscored Mason County 28-1 in the quarter.

It was eventually a 36-3 run for the Indians.

After trailing 44-33, the Royals scored 17 straight points.

Leevi Dunaway hit one of two free throws with 7.8 seconds left in the game to give Mason County a 66-62 lead.

Madison Central guard Jacori Miller drained a three-pointer and the Indians took their final timeout with 1.1 seconds to play.

Mason County's three-quarter court pass was deflected out of bounds with no timing showing on the clock.

The officials put .3 of second back on the clock, and Madison Central had in back court.

Isaiah Garrison intercepted the long inbounds pass in front of the Indians' basketball sealing the Royals' sixth win of the season.

Dunaway scored a game-high 25 points. Sam Kumler followed with 18 points and Garrison and Jaylen Lofton both scored 10 points.

Miller led the Indians in scoring with 18 points off the bench.

Madison Central sophomore center Isaiah Cozart had a triple double with 13 points, 18 rebounds and 15 blocks. He had 11 blocks in the first half.

Mason County hosts Harrison County Friday at 8 p.m.
