Earle D. Jones Posthumously Inducted into KY HS Basketball Hall of Fame

Legendary Maysville High School basketball coach Earle D. Jones was posthumously inducted into the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame in Elizabethtown tonight. He coached at Maysville from 1931 to 1955. Jones guided the Bulldogs to 19 district championships, nine region titles, the 1947 state championship, and state runner-up finishes in 1938 and 1948. He also coached the Maysville football and baseball teams, and was the girls' basketball coach for the 1931-32 season. Jones' record at Maysville was 470-180. His 19 coaching victories in state tournament games were a state record until 2006. He coached three seasons at Kavanaugh before coming here. His 1930 Kavanaugh team was the Class A state champion. Jones' record at Kavanaugh was 71-11. Jones became the principal at Maysville High School in 1949, and later served as Superintendent of the Maysville schools. Woodleigh Elementary School was renamed Earle D. Jones Elementary School. The basketball court in the Mason County Lady Royals Gym (formerly the Maysville Gym) is named Earle D. Jones Court.
