Jerry King Day in Maysville

Today was proclaimed Jerry King Day in Maysville by Mayor David Cartmell. A community reception was held at the VFW Hall. King was honored for his athletic accomplishments as well as his devotion to his family, friends, church and community. King will be inducted into the Legends Club at the Worth Softball Hall of Fame in Columbus, Ohio in July and the National Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, OK. in October. King's family, friends, former teammates and community leaders attended today's reception. King received a key to the city and was named a Kentucky Colonel. He also received awards from the Maysville Police Department (he is a retired Maysville police officer) and the Mason County Chapter of the NAACP. King's siblings presented him with a special edition Jerry King Louisville Slugger bat. King was an all state basketball and baseball player on the first teams at Mason County High School. He was a U.S. Marine and served in Vietnam. When he returned home, he played basketball at Morehead State University and then began playing softball throughout the nation. He was a prodigious home run hitter for elite teams. Here is a video of some of the highlights of today's reception:
