It appears a ban on radio broadcasts and webcasts from the boys' 9th and 10th Region basketball tournaments at The Bank of Kentucky Center might be lifted. News of the broadcast ban surfaced over the weekend on Bluegrasspreps.com. An official with The Bank of Kentucky Center on Thursday told Ben Blaser of NorthernKentuckySports.com in an e-mail "we are not going to permit the broadcast of any kind, for this year’s Region 9 & 10 tournaments being held here at The Bank of Kentucky Center in March of 2009". Radio stations in the 10th Region voiced their opposition to the proposed ban and many fans e-mailed The Bank of Kentucky Center. State Representative Mike Denham and other state officials also became involved. Anthony Strong, the Superintendent of Campbell County Schools, sent an e-mail to athletic directors at 10th Region schools today saying "(The Bank of Kentucky Center's) reasoning behind (the proposed ban) makes sense due to the fact that they are guaranteeing us money. I have expressed a concern about this, and feel like some type of compromise will be reached by early tomorrow."
The schools gave away too much control of this year's tournament. Let's hope they've learned by their mistake. Stay tuned.
