The Mason County Royals made just 3-of-16 free throws in a 48-47 loss to the Franklin County Flyers today in the Kentucky Bank Shootout at Bourbon County. There were four ties and seven lead changes in the game. With Franklin County leading 46-45, Mason County missed four short shots and two technical free throws. Russ Middleton's runner in the lane put the Royals up
47-46 with 1:10 left. Vance Hall's basket with 11 seconds to play put Franklin County back in the lead. Mason County missed two shots in the closing seconds. Franklin County won despite scoring only four points in the fourth quarter. The Flyers outrebounded the Royals on the offensive end 17-8. After being held to two points in the first half, Middleton ended up with a
game-high 14 points. Keith Downing scored a career-high 13 points. Mason County's next game is Dec. 27 against Harrison High School of Kennesaw, Georgia in the Sunshine Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida.
