Ryan Hines of Portsmouth, Ohio fired a 2-under-par 70 today at the Maysville Country Club to take the first round lead in the 40th Junior Chippeways. Hines shot a 33 on the back nine.
Russell Rigg of Maysville, Tanner Mobley and defending champion Zach Butler are tied for second at 1-over 73. Mobley and Butler are teammates at Paul Dunbar High School Lexington.
Corey Richmond of West Union is four shots back at 2-over 74. The championship flight will play 36 holes Saturday. The rest of the field will play 18 holes Saturday.
