
Mark Blakefield has qualified for this week's Nationwide Tour event in Raleigh, N.C. Blakefield fired a nine-under-par 63 in the Monday qualifier. He earned a spot in The Rex Hospital Open at TPC Wakefield Plantation. This will be Blakefield's first appearance on the Nationwide Tour-the official proving ground for the PGA Tour. The 72-hole tournament begins Thursday.
Blakefield has been on a roll the past couple of weeks. He picked up his first professional victory May 18 at the ADI Classic on the Hooters Tour, and he set the course record at the Maysville Country Club last week, firing an 11-under-par 61. Eric Schumacher had the previous record with a 62.
