Here is the press release from Mason County Coach Mark Kachler:
The Mason County Lady Royals found themselves in a three way battle on Saturday with Ashland and Russell at the Ernie Chattin Track Invitational held at Ashland Paul Blazer High School. The three teams were virtually deadlocked for the entire meet but in the end the Lady Royals fell four points shy of Ashland in first place and just four points ahead of Russell who finished third. "I was extremely proud of our girls today," Coach Mark Kachler said. "Everyone really stepped up. We had many personal best performances today and we had girls doing events they normally do not do just to try and salvage any points we possibly could to seal the victory. We just fell a little short today but we left it all out there on the track. I think this is the first time we have ever beaten Russell in a track and field meet. That is a huge accomplishment for this group." The Lady Royals were led by 8th grader Valerie Rice who won the 1600 meters, 800 meters and anchored the 4x800 meter relay with Raylee Kirkland, Blaine Menke, and Rachel White that also won 1st place. Senior Kasey Litzinger won the discus and was second in the Shot Put. DeSarae Chambers made her first appearance of the season anchoring the 4 x 100 meter relay with Elizabeth Levay, Andreanna Bennett, and Tiarra Harris. Chambers absence in the jumping events however was the difference today. The Mason County boys team finished 6th and was led by Sophomore Jim Meyers who was third in the 1600 meters, 3200 meters and was a part of the 4 x 800 meter relay with Westin Stahl, Colt Fearis and Connor Appelman that finished third.
