The Mason County Royals built a 26 point lead in the third quarter and beat the Covington Catholic Colonels 66-56 tonight at The Fieldhouse. Mason County led 34-25 at the half and started the third quarter on a 17-2 run to lead 53-27 with just over two minutes left in the quarter. Darius Miller led the Royals with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Trevor Setty scored 21 points and Ethan King added 12. Mitch Shover and Chris Bondick each scored 13 points for the Colonels. Michael Grimes added 11. It was a tournament atmosphere with a huge crowd and the two schools' cheering sections kept things lively. There was a solemn moment before the game as Mason County remembered longtime statistician Danny Boyd who died in May. A moment of silence was observed and the coaching staff presented an autographed basketball to Boyd's wife and daughters.
