Mason County vs. Campbell County

The Mason County Royals football team will host the Class 6A Campbell County Camels tomorrow night. Here are some game notes:
  • Mason County has won three straight games and is 4-1;
  • Campbell County (3-2) snapped a two-game losing streak last week with a 26-7 win over Conner;
  • This is the first meeting between the two schools;
  • Mason County and Campbell County have one common opponent, Boone County. The Royals lost to the Rebels 42-20. The Camels lost to Boone County 28-0;
  • In this week's Class 3A statistics compiled by the KHSAA, Mason County is third in scoring (41 ppg), fourth in scoring defense (14 ppg), third in scoring margin (27 ppg), 11th in rushing (226.8 ypg), ninth in rushing defense (153.6 ypg), 10th in passing (101.8 ypg), eighth in passing defense (101.8 ypg);
  • Four Mason County players are among the stat leaders- quarterback Richie Cox is 10th in passing (100.2 ypg), tight endJackson Tolle is 13th in receiving (44.4 ypg), running backs Jeremy Thompson and Cameron Pollitt are listed tied for 13th in scoring at 9.6 points per game, but that figure is based on five games and Thompson has only played in four games after missing last week's win over West Carter. Thompson has scored 48 points and should be listed as tied for seventh place with an average of 12 points per game, Pollitt has actually scored nine touchdowns for 54 points or an average of 10.8 points per game and should listed as tied for 11th;
  • Campbell County is giving up an average of 20.2 points per game. Camels coach Troy Styer says inside linebackers Jordan Woodruff (#50) and Brian Sauerback (#59), both seniors, are the Camels playmakers;
  • This is the first season senior Nathan Kidwell has played quarterback. Last week, he also played some at fullback and linebacker. When Kidwell moves to another position, sophomore Andrew Eshman takes over at quarterback. Here's a link to a Cincinnati Enquirer article about Kidwell;
  • Both teams have an open date next week.
