The White team defeated the Blue 8-0 in Mason County's annual spring football game this afternoon.
Josh Huron scored a touchdown on a two-yard run late in the first quarter. Colt Fearis, who was the quarterback for both teams, ran for the two-point conversion. Starting quarterback Richie Cox has been splitting his time playing both baseball and football this spring.
The game wrapped up two weeks of spring practice.
"We know our execution [in today's game] is going to stink," coach David Buchanan said after the game. "Used to, we would take a practice and prepare. We didn't even do that this time, (the assistant coaches) threw it together. What I'm pleased with is I think we could have several good football players, but we're not a football team yet, and that's what we're going to work on from this point forward."
Summer practice begins July 10. The Royals will have passing scrimmages against Highlands July 10 and 12.
The season opener is August 25 against the Paris Greyhounds in St. Joseph's Bluegrass Bowl at Lexington Catholic.
