Locals Excel at Russell Cross Country Invitational

Mason County won the girls varsity race, the girls middle school race and the boys middle school race in the Russell Cross Country Invitational Saturday.
Mason County sophomore Rachel White won the girls varsity race narrowly defeating teammate Iretta Carpenter. Valerie Rice finished fourth with Jessica Shotwell, Alexi Loving and Blaine Menke all medaling. Melissa Dozier of Fleming County took sixth place, Sara Moe of St. Patrick was eighth and Kesley Dillon of Fleming County was 13th.
Mason County senior Travis Scaggs was third in the boys varsity race. Also medaling for the Royals were Trent Thornton, Steven Scaggs, and Josh Fahey. St. Patrick’s Stephen Cropper was 6th and Lee Ham was 17th. Shane Whitt and Tyler Fraser of Fleming County were 8th and 19th respectively.
In the girls middle school division Julia Woods won the race followed by teammate Raylee Kirkland in second. Samantha Grayson, Abby Huff, and Chelsi Comberger all medalled for the young Lady Royals. St. Patrick Lady Saint, Amrita Srinivasan, finished 3rd. Fleming’s Mary Beth Plummer was 11th.
Mason County runners took second through sixth place in the boys middle school race.
Medalling for Mason County were Mikal Thackston, Connor Appelman, Nathan Woods, Alex Comberger, Daniel Appelman, Andy Ward, Ryan White, Dylan Fahey, Peyton Moyer and Nathaniel Grayson.
In the elementary races, Garret Appelman and Monica Shotwell of Mason County as well as Erin Pugh of Fleming County ran and received an award.
