Coach Deron Breeze's Adair County Indians were defeated by the Bowling Green Purples 52-51 in overtime in the opening game of the UK HealthCare Boys' Sweet 16 on Wednesday at Rupp Arena.
Bowling Green built a 10-point lead with 6:35 remaining in the fourth quarter and was up by eight with 4:18 to go.
Adair County used a 14-4 run to lead 46-44 with 1:01 remaining.
Bowling Green tied the game at 46-46 with 40 seconds to go.
Adair County played for the last shot, but missed a 3-point attempt and a putback in the closing seconds.
The Indians made two free throws to lead 51-50 with 31 seconds remaining in the extra period, but the Purples made what turned out to be the game-winning basket with nine seconds left, and Adair County missed a last second, desperation 3-point attempt.
Breeze, a former student at Mason County and a former head coach at Bracken County, guided Adair County to a 30-6 record and a second consecutive trip to the state tournament.
Jeffersontown upset No. 1 St. Xavier 64-59 in the second game of the tournament.
