Royals beat Augusta, lose to Bracken County in district tournament

The Mason County Royals beat the Augusta Panthers 4-2 in the semifinals, but lost to the Bracken County Polar Bears 6-4 in the chmpionship game of the 39th District Tournament at Augusta on Monday.

Landon Scilley pitched a no hitter and struck out 17 in the win over Augusta.

Scilley fanned the first seven batters he faced.

Connor Butler and Scilley hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning.

Augusta scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning.

Scilley hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning of the championship game.

Nicholas Mains' sacrifice bunt gave the Royals a 3-0 lead, but Bracken County answered with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Mason County (17-15) regained the lead on Nathan Bisotti's RBI single in the third inning.

The Polar Bears (17-8) tied the score with a run in the bottom of the third inning, took the lead with a run in the fifth inning and added an insurance run in the sixth inning.

The loss snapped Mason County's streak of seven straight district championships.

It is Bracken County's first district title since 2015.

Both teams advance to the 10th Region Tournament.
