Royals unable to hold 15-point lead and lose to CAL

The Mason County Royals squandered a 15-point first half lead and lost to the Christian Academy of Louisville Centurions 65-61 on Wednesday night in the quarterfinal round of the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge at South Laurel.

The loss snapped Mason County's five-game winning streak.

The Royals (5-2) were up 29-14 in the second quarter and 35-26 at halftime, but were outscored 39-26 in the second half including 22-14 in the fourth quarter.

There were three ties and nine lead changes in the game. 

CAL (5-3) scored 27 points off Mason County's 17 turnovers.

Blake Reed led Mason County in scoring with 18 points.Braylon Hamilton and Landon Scilley followed with 11 points apiece. Scilley had a team-high six rebounds.

The Royals will play Harlan in the consolation bracket on Thursday at 2:15 p.m.
