Here are a few news and notes following the first week of the high school basketball season:

• Mason County junior guard Cayden Reed scored his 15-hundredth career point in the Royals' season opener Tuesday night.
• Mason County senior guard Blake Reed scored his 35-hundredth career point in the Royals' win over Greenup County on Thursday night. 
• The Royals opened the game vs. Greenup County with good pressure defense and red-hot shooting. Mason County forced eight turnovers in the first quarter and after having their first shot of the game blocked, the Royals made their next 12 shots from the field. Mason County ended up going 13-of-18 (72%) from the field in the first quarter including 3-of-3 on 3-pointers.
• The 1973 Paris Greyhounds state championship football team was recognized during the Class A football state championship game on Friday. The late Homer Goins was the head coach of the 1973 Paris team. Goins was an assistant coach when Maysville revived its football program in 1967.
