Royals edge Polar Bears 43-38

Terrell Henry scored eight of his 14 points in the fourth quarter and the Mason County Royals beat the Bracken County Polar Bears 43-38 in the semifinals of the 39th District Tournament at The Fieldhouse on Monday night. Mason County extended its winning streak against Bracken County to 33 games.

There were six ties and seven lead changes through the first three quarters.

Two layups by Henry to start the fourth quarter gave the Royals a 35-31 lead.

Blake Reed drained a 3-pointer to cut the Royals' lead to one.

Bracken County had a chance to regain the lead, but KG Walton came up with a steal and scored on a layup.

A basket by Devante Jefferson cut Mason County's lead to one again, but that would be the Polar Bear's last field goal.

Riley Mastin made 1-of-2 free throws to make the score 38-36 with 1:50 to play.

Henry made another layup to push the lead to four points with 56 seconds remaining. 

Henry made two free throws to boost the lead to 42-36 with only 16 seconds left.

Reed was fouled on a 3-pointer with nine seconds remaining. He made 2-of-3 free throws.

KG Walton hit 1-of-2 free throws with seven seconds left.

Mastin scored 13 of his 14 points in the first half. 

Philip Bierley had a game-high seven rebounds for the Royals.

Reed finished with 18 points, 11 below his season average. He was guarded by either Henry or Walton for most of the game.

Mason County (26-5) moves on to the championship game on Thursday night to play the winner of Tuesday night's game between Augusta and St. Patrick.

Bracken County ends the season with a 16-14 record.
