Ohio high schools to vote on name, image likeness issue

Ohio high school athletes could earn money from their name, image and likeness if Ohio High School Athletic Association member schools approve a change in the bylaws.

The New Amateurism Bylaw is one the 13 bylaw issues and one constitution issue approved by the OHSAA Board of Directors approved. The member schools will vote on the issues from May 1-16.

If the member schools vote in favor of the New Amateurism Bylaw, student-athletes could sign endorsement deals as long as their teams, schools and/or the OHSAA are not represented in the deals. The students would be prohibited from signing deals involving casinos, gambling, alcohol, drugs or tobacco.

If approved, the issue would be effective, May 16, 2022.
