The Mason County Lady Royals opened the outdoor track and field season by winning the Rowan County Invitational on Saturday by a quarter point over the Bourbon County Lady Cardinals. The Royals finished second in the boys' meet.
The Lady Royals had 153 points. Bourbon County had 152.75 points. Rowan County was a distance third with 82 points.
The Royals had 105 points. Montgomery County won the boys' meet with 143 points.
Mason County junior Layla Henderson won the 3200 meter run and broke her own school record with a time of 11:37.
Other first-place finishes by Mason County athletes include:
- Anthony Bozeman, boys' 200 meter dash, 23.71
- AJ Barrett, boys' pole vault, 11-06.00
- The girls' 4x100 meter relay, 52.44
- The girls' 4x200 meter relay team, 1:48.10
