George Rogers Clark, the No. 1 team in the state, lived up to its billing by defeating the Bracken County Polar Bears 80-45 in the championship game of the 10th Region Tournament tonight at Holmes High School. It's the Cardinals' third straight region title.
GRC raced out to a 13-0 lead. Bracken County cut the deficit to seven points three times in the first half, but the Cardinals were up 33-18 at the half. The score was 54-29 after three quarters. The final margin was the largest of the night.
GRC has won 27 straight games and heads to the 2022 UK HealthCare Boys' Sweet 16 with a 33-1 record. The Cardinals play 14th Region champion Perry County Central on March 16 at 6 p.m.
Bracken County, which was playing in the region finals for the first time since 1955, ends the season with a 24-10 record.
