A positive COVID-19 case has ended the Mason County football season five days before the Royals were scheduled to play host to the Pendleton County Wildcats in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.
Mason County High School made the announcement in a press release this afternoon.
The press release said a positive case within the football program impacted many players and the coaching staff.
All student athletes impacted by the positive test are being contacted and are quarantined according to the press release.
All athletic practices and games including basketball are paused until after the Thanksgiving break.
The Mason County girls' and boys' basketball team were scheduled to open the season next week. Those games have been postponed.
The press release said the school will reevaluate the situation on November 30 and make a decision concerning its next steps.
The Mason County football team had a 4-2 overall record and a 3-1 record in district games. The Royals had secured the No. 2 seed in the district.
The Mason County vs. Pendleton County playoff game is cancelled. Pendleton County will advance to the second round.
