Former Mason County assistant coach Kelly Carwile dies

Former Mason County assistant basketball coach Kelly Carwile died Sunday after suffering an aortic rupture while driving last week.

Carwile was an assistant coach for the Royals under head coach Chris O'Hearn in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.

Carwile left Mason County in 2010 to become the head coach at Pike County Central. His teams won two district championships during his four seasons at Pike County Central.

Carwile was the head coach at Grayson County for the 2014-15 to 2016-17 seasons.

He was an assistant coach at Hopkinsville the past two seasons before accepting an assistant coaching position at Webster County.

Prior to coming to Mason County, he was head coach at Webster County for four seasons and head coach at Lyon County for two seasons. He had also served an assistant coach at Graves County and Hopkinsville.
