The Mason County Royals jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first half and went on to beat the Russell Red Devils 34-21 in the rain and mud tonight at Mason County. Josh Harris and Jordan Gilbert scored on long runs and Neal Pawsat had a rushing touchdown all in the first quarter. Harris' second TD of the night put the Royals up 28-0 early in the second quarter. Travis Jones scored Russell's first touchdown with 1:17 left in the first half and scored touchdowns on the Red Devils' first two possessions of the second half. The Royals answered with a 73-yard drive capped off by Harris' third touchdown. Harris rushed for 134 yards. Pawsat was 7-of-15 for 102 yards. Jones rushed for 189 yards for Russell. Each team had five fumbles. Mason County lost one. Russell lost three. It's the first time Mason County has defeated Russell in back-to-back games. The Royals beat the Red Devils in Flatwoods last season. The 34 points are the most scored by Mason County against Russell. Mason County is 7-0 overall and 2-0 in district games. The Royals play West Carter in Olive Hill this coming Friday.
