Lake Kelly dead at age 75

Former Fleming County and Clark County boys' basketball coach Lake Kelly died today. He was 75. Kelly, a graduate of Georgia Tech, served two stints as head coach at Austin Peay University. He was also the head coach at Oral Roberts University. After leaving ORU, Kelly coached at Clark County. He guided the Cardinals to the 1983 state tournament. Kelly was an assistant coach under Joe B. Hall at the University of Kentucky in 1984 and 1985. Kelly returned home to Fleming County and led the Panthers to back-to-back 10th Region titles in 1998 and 1999. The 1998 team advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament. Kelly's teams were known for their tenacious man-to-man defense. Lake was always nice to me. Our prayers are with his family.
