The Mason County Royals used pressure defense and controlled the boards to beat the Campbell County Camels 63-43 today in the championship game of the Pepsi Mason County Invitational Tournament. Mason County led by 10 at 36-26 before Campbell County closed to within three at 36-33. The Royals then went on a 27-7 run to lead by 23 at 63-40. Mason County forced Campbell County to commit 20 turnovers (13 in the second half), and the Royals outrebounded the Camels 31-16 (16-2 on the offensive end). Russ Middleton led Mason County with 15 points. Jordan Gilbert matched his career-high of 12 points on four three-pointers.
The Royals were without Keith Downing who missed the game with an injury. Mason County plays Scott County in Georgetown Friday night.
